I sometimes used to (I don't use it anymore- because my bank account got messed up and they need a copy of all kinds of forms to reset it including my SSN card, a bank statement, my DL, and a few other things- I have a $20 balance, but it's worth not gettting the money to not send all that.) list things on half.com with unreasonable prices... it doesn't cost anything to list... and I figure, I don't really want to get rid of the item, but if someone really wants to pay that much for it- well then I'll sell it.
I don't know why you would do that on ebay, since you have to pay to list. That just seems dumb to me.
I think that when a person has an e-Bay store, listing items is cheaper versus the regular auction format.

Are people really buying these out of print history mysteries for big money? I have several new in my closet that I bought with the code last year. I can't imagine them selling for that big of a price!
Most of the other History Mysteries aren't listed at anywhere near these prices, more like a few cents for the ones that have been aroud longer- $10ish for the other later ones. I can't imagine this one is really anymore rare. I'd guess one person randomly put up such a high price, and the others just copied the first person.
I'm going to pick up the new Historical Mysteries today, and look to see if they have this History Mystery. If so, I'll be picking up 2, one of my collection, and one for incase one of these actually does sell, I might even list mine at $500, . I know my Borders and B&N normally have a great deal of History Mysteries, so I hope, especially with this being one of the later books, that there should be at least one copy.

Has anyone written to one of these sellers to see if it's a mistake? Somehow it's difficult to think it is since the prices are so "specific" (example: I could understand if they meant $10.52 and accidentally wrote down $1,052, but with the cents afterward ($1,052.47), it doesn't look like a mistake).

There's one on B&N.com, too, for even more.

Here's how to contact a seller on Amazon. Before beginning, make sure you have an Amazon account. (I hope only one person (Judi?) will do this since we don't want to bombard the sellers with the same question.)
1) Click on the link Cami posted at the beginning of this thread.
2) On "Availability: Available from these sellers" click on the words "these sellers."
3) Click on the seller's name, where it says "Seller:"
4) Scroll down a bit.
5) Under "Related links" click "Contact this seller."
I do have an Amazom account. I will contact the seller and post my findings.
